FLASHES ON FONDWA
November 2007
 |
At the beginning of this summer (2007), both Sr. Simone and Sr. Carmelle became very ill with potentially life-threatening conditions and without any health insurance. Because of their connections with two religious congregations in the US, The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in PA., both Sisters were able to receive medical treatment and are now, gratefully, back in Fondwa.
|
Other good news for the Sisters: Sr. Myrlande Moise is finishing her two year notiviate and will be making first vows in the congregation of St. Antoine of Fondwa on December 8, 2007

Hurricane Noel paid a vist to Fondwa on October 29 and stayed for a week, causing lots of damage, but no deaths. The road into and out of Fondwa is blocked by mudslides. Neither the UN nor the local government has begun to help clear the road. The peasants are suffering and considering doing something to clear the road themselves. Fondwa desperately needs a bulldozer for problems such as this. The hurricane also caused extensive crop damage, which is a large part of the peasant's income.

Congratulations St. Antoine School! The secondary section received its certification and is now approved by the government. Also, the results of the official national exams have been 100% at the end of elemetary school, 70% in middle school, and 80% in rheto (one year before the end of high school) and 100% at the end of high school. Great job teachers and leadership team of the school!!

It now has a US Coordinator, Sandra Hick, who is an Associate with the Srs. Of Charity of Leavenworth. It is a six day, five night program. More info can be found on the APF website.
