History of SEKONAPA
At the occasion of the meeting of the Congress Committee to evaluate the Congress development from April 23rd to April 27th of 2008, in Fondwa, several decisions were taken by the Participants of the Congress in order to ensure the continuity of the Peasants Congress.
The Participants asked the Peasants Congress Committee to make the follow-up of the Peasants Congress until the Peasants receive the public services in the Communal Sections where they live.
They have also decided during the meeting of May 2, 2008, to set up an office which will have the responsibility to ensure the continuity of the Peasants Congress, and to hire an Executive Assistant to work on a permanent-basis at the Permanent Office of the Central Committee of the National Congress of the Haitian Peasants (SEKONAPA)
The Office was set up on May 7, 2008. And we hired a computer Technician with experiences in the field of translation in several languages to work at the Secretariat.
Since this time, we achieved many projects, such as: Contacting the Associations of the Peasants which were absents at the Congress, and other important personalities who support the fight for freedom of the Haitian Peasants.
After that, we contacted the Departmental Delegates to have a report on what they did after the Congress, and to invite them to a meeting on June 15, 2008.
The meeting was a success, and we appreciated the work that the Departmental Delegates have done to inform the people living in Rural Haiti of their rights and the wrestle they must lead to force the Haitian Government to provide the public services to them. They went on radios to present the Ministry of the Peasants Affaires; they gathered together groups of Peasants Association to explain to them the reason why they need a Ministry of the Peasants Affaires, they even talked at length on boats about the rights of the Peasants and the creation of the Ministry of the Peasants Affaires.
Now, we are committing ourselves to find the Parliament Members, Haitian Representatives, Prime Minister, the Associations of Mayors of each Department, and other Organization to ask them to support the Declaration made by the Participants of the Peasants National Congress.
