The presence of international volunteers in Fondwa
During the last ten years, we have welcomed approximately 50 international volunteers who have volunteered at least six months. Some have remained one, two or even three years. Some of them were from organizations and others volunteers and came on their own. Others came to attend our tourism education program for five days and later they chose to come to volunteer in Fondwa for one or two years.
Some of them are from churches in the United States and Canada. Some of the volunteers are from organizations like VICS in Canada, SCD & CEIPL in France, FHM in the United States and there were our Cuban volunteers from Liliana Institute and the University of Guantanamo. We also received delegation from Universities in the USA, like the American University in Washington DC. We hope to continue receiving more visitors, students, professors, teachers, professionals alike.
We have all worshipped and reflected together. There are times when we have groups of Jewish, Muslim, Pentecostal, Methodist, Buddhist, Lutherans and Catholics – believers and non-believers – that have celebrated the Eucharist together. What bring us together is the work we do together with the poor.
